About Attabad Lake
Attabad Lake, also known as Gojal Lake or Gojal Tso, is a fresh water lake situated on the Karakoram Highway in Gilgit-Baltistan. It was formed by a landslide that blocked the Hunza River near Attabad village.
The lake was created by a massive landslide that dammed up tributaries of River Hunz. It is fed mainly by glacial melt-water and snow runoff from peaks of an otherwise arid mountain range. The lake surface covers 2.2 square kilometers and its water supports populations of rainbow trout and brown trout, making it one of Pakistan’s most popular lakes for sport fishing

Where is Attabad Lake?
If you’re planning a trip to Pakistan, it may be hard to find a tour operator who can take you to Attabad Lake. In addition, most Pakistan travel agents can’t help with arrangements for driving up to Chakdarra. From Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital city, it’s about a 7-hour drive on a 4-lane highway through Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
This route is beautiful, but not without its challenges. There are several checkpoints along the way where you will need your passport to cross into different regions of Pakistan.
You also need an International Driving Permit (IDP) if you plan on renting a car or taking a taxi between cities. Once you reach Gilgit Baltistan, there are no gas stations so make sure your tank is full before leaving town! The good news is that there are plenty of scenic places to stop along the way if you want to get out and stretch your legs or take pictures.
What do we know about the new hotel
Local resources say a five-star resort is being constructed about 30 minutes outside of town.
